What does Oppo think? I have never seen a used car this clean, 2001 Volvo S80 Bi-turbo with only 22k miles, price is a bit steep even for Brazilian standards but I could see myself buying this if I wasn't getting the S8 or replacing the C5 in a couple years. (Actual pictures are on the link)

I have the non-turbo version. The car is fantastic, but the transmission is a big weak spot.

Haha that really bothers me, but I don't blame the seller, the site has pre-determined names for all the cars.

EL-ULY said something about it once, what's wrong with it?

Then again, this is about the only transverse FWD I6 in existence other than the Leyland Princess.

GM trans didn't hold out too well and the OEM rebuilds we sell are not too great either :( Some do last though. There is always exemptions in the car world

They're just weak; in most markets the S80 used a GM transmission from a Polish Opel factory, and they failed often compared to other cars. Some markets received S80s with Japanese transmissions, and I think they fared better. I'm not sure which transmission Brazil received.

exactly!
also, from what I understand, those (early 2000s) S80 had transmission issues.

This guy collects cars so I assume he took good care of it and it also very low mileage, could this be one exemption haha?

I think we got the 5 speed, don't know if they are the Opel or Japanese ones?

As others have said, the transmissions were Doo-Doo.

The 5 speed is Japanese (Aisin). I think they're OK, but definitely check the local forums.

Nope. The NA B6294 is ok, but in my experience the twin turbos are awful, with myriad heat & boost related issues, including head gasket problems. As others have also noted, the transmissions are famously weak. Front suspension bushings & mounts are also weak points. At least the miles are low (assuming odometer accuracy unless instrument cluster has been replaced), so if you absolutely fall in love with it you might not have any real issues for a couple of years.

it's a toss up really. The AISIN wasn't offered in the US S80's. That was a really good trans.

Having "transmission issues" is a massive understatement. The transmission is a ticking time bomb, and is usually the downfall of these cars. The NA i6 is fine though! And it's such a great engine, super smooth and sounds incredible on WOT

I asked Oppo about one of these when I was first looking for a car. They told be the turbos, and more importantly the tranny, had a habit of grinding themselves well before 100k.
